Mango Mastani (Mango cooler)


Let's begin the mango season with mango mastani, a creamy smooth mango cooler topped with ice cream, slivered pistachio, saffron and ground cardamom. A drink that is loved by both kids and adults. It is a drink that requires pantry staples and is super simple to make.


Now let's get to the story behind this drink, the name "Mango Mastani", is from the legend of the famous Peshwa ruler Bajirao and his lover, the beautiful Mastani. Over years this drink has been very popular during mango season in India especially during those hot sunny days.


I was first introduced to this drink by my closest friends Priya, I remember her mom making it for me whenever there was mango season in UK. My grandma(dadima) made a very similar drink with mangoes for festive occasions but would call "Mango cooler". It was one of the staple drinks made at home, so cooling to the stomach.

Mango Mastani

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Servings: 1


Ingredients:

1 mango (cut into pieces)

2 scoops vanilla ice-cream

3/4 cup milk (Dairy free milk)

1/2 tsp ground cardamom

1 tsp slivered pistachios

1 tsp saffron strands

1 tbsp honey


Directions:

1. Add milk, mango, cardamom, saffron, honey to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

2. In a glass add ice-cream scoop at the bottom and Pour the smoothie into tall glass. Add a scoop of ice cream on top and decorate with slivered pistachios, ground cardamom and saffron. Enjoy!
